Reversing Revenge

Oct 8, 2023    Rev. Steve Albertin

In Jesus Christ the never-ending cycle of revenge and making everyone pay is reversed and undone!

The thirst for revenge that afflicts all of us is vividly portrayed in the parable in today's Gospel.

The parable not only portrays the hatred and revenge that led to Jesus's death, but also the hatred and revenge that resides in every one of us.

Amazingly, God uses human hatred and revenge to love the world. "The stone which the builders rejected (Jesus) became the head of the corner." Jesus's death becomes the very means by which God forgives us and frees us from the cycle of revenge.

An example of reversing revenge: a victim forgives his torturer.
