Delighting in the Mystery
May 26, 2024 • Rev. Steve Albertin
Today is the only Sunday in the church year on which we commemorate a doctrine rather than a person or an event: The Holy Trinity.
The church has tried to explain the Trinity, but it always remains a mystery that defies rational explanation.
Instead of trying to explain the mystery of the Trinity, it is far better to understand the Trinity as the result of our experience of the good news of God’s love in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.
From the way Paul responds to the experience of suffering in today’s Second Reading, we see that the Trinity is the way we talk about the God we experience as love in Jesus Christ.
The Trinity is not so much a mystery to be explained as it is a delight to be enjoyed. Let’s enjoy the dance!
